J-L cheerleaders speak about new season Four girls will return to court side for the Johannesburg-Lewiston cheerleading squad for the winter season. The squad mostly populated of four returning juniors and two freshman will cheer loudly to the Cardinal fans as the basketball teams fight for victory. "I'm excited, ready to get started," said J-L cheerleading coach Crystal Coake. "We've been doing a lot of work. We have learned over 50 cheers so far, I'm anxious to get up there and use them. Eventually we will work on perfecting the gymnastics. For the first couple of weeks during the basketball season we would just basically do cheers. It won't be a big show and then we will work on dance routines for homecoming." Coake also commented that it's tough being a new coach. She claimed that she has to work hard to find a group of girls who would take the program seriously. "I've been coaching for over a year now and I am at the point where I have girls who really want to be there and work hard," stated Coake. "So I think a lot of it is the idea that cheerleading would catch on more." This season J-L has a very short squad, due to more girls going out for basketball. But it didn't matter to the team's captain, Faline Black, who said they're going to be awesome. Whereas her co-captain, Amanda Cox stated it's still going to be a lot of fun and the squad has very talented members. Returning juniors are Faline Black, Darleen Wood, Katie Mager, and Kristy Ressler, and freshman Amanda Cox and Haley Kwapis.
