at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lewiston.
Baccalaureate begins at 7:00 pm
and the awards program will begin at 8:00 pm.

Johannesburg-Lewiston Class of 2008 Valedictorian

This year's Valedictorian is Taylor Elise Ollanketo, daughter of Rico Breznau and Kevin Ollanketo. Taylor earned a grade point average of 4.0. She has been accepted to Saginaw Valley State University where she intends to pursue the health science field. Taylor is a member of the National Honor Society. She participated in softball, basketball and cheerleading. She has also been in the band since sixth grade. She was the drum major for the marching band during the 2007-08 marching season.: She also participates in the jazz band. Taylor has also been involved in the Odyssey of the Mind, Youth in Government, Young Humanitarians, Sea Kayaking and Student Government. Taylor's awards include the Michigan Promise Scholarship, Michigan Competitive Scholarship Qualifier, President's Award for Educational Excellence and nominee for the Robert C. Byrd Scholarship.

Johannesburg-Lewiston Class of 2008 Salutatorian

This year's salutatorian is Melissa Kay VanOverbeke, daughter of Jeffrey and Candiss VanOverbeke. Melissa earned a grade point average of 3.99. She has been accepted into the Lyman Briggs School at Michigan State University. She will be majoring in Biological Sciences with a specialization in pre-medicine. Melissa is a member of the National Honor Society (2 years). She has participated in Volleyball (4 years), Knowledge Bowl (3 years), Youth in Government (1 year) and band since sixth grade. She participated in Solo and Ensemble for 6 years, earning top scores seven times. She has also participated in Pep Band and Jazz Band. Melissa's community service includes: volunteering at the Aspen Ridge Retirement Village and the Lewiston Public Library, participating in the Study Buddies Summer Program where she was director of activities, helping out at the Lewiston Masonic Temple, endless hours of tutoring her peers, and the Christmas "Holy Walk." Melissa's awards include the Michigan Promise Scholarship, Michigan Competitive Scholarship, President's Award for Educational Excellence and the USMS Scholastics Excellence Award.
