GIRL SCOUTS
They are collecting plastic grocery sacks. They are trying to address plastic waste and for a global project are making mats for Haiti. These mats will be used in schools, orphanages, medical centers and community gatherings to improve sanitary conditions. If you can help, please send in your clean plastic grocery sacks to the office.

5th-6th GRADE VOLLEYBALL
Tuesday and Thursday
3:00-5:15 p.m. T-shirt, shorts and athletic shoes are required to practice.

MEDICATION:

Our new medication policy requires having two staff members present to administrate medication. We are asking you to request to your physician an antibiotic that is giving twice a day rather than three times a day. This will allow you to monitor your child’s medication and administer prior to school and when your child returns home from school. However, if they administer medication for three times a day then we suggest once before they come to school; when they return home from school; and before they go to bed.

6TH GRADE CAMP WOLVERINE

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to another school year! I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer vacation. We have had a successful first week of school. The students have picked up classroom routines quickly. Because I am new to the Johannesburg building, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. This is the start of my fifteenth year of teaching. I have worked in the Lewiston building since 2002 and have taught sixth grade for all but two years of my teaching career. I earned my degree from Central Michigan University and my Master's degree from Michigan State. Not only am I a sixth grade teacher, but this year a sixth grade parent, as my oldest son is also in the sixth grade. I am married and have two other children: one in second grade and one in preschool.

I want to give you the break down on how I grade the students in Language Arts and Reading.

Language Arts
Writing: 60% of their grade
Grammar: 15%
Quizzes: 20%
Participation: 5%

Reading
Class work (journals, essay questions, papers): 60%
Tests: 35%
Participation: 5%

Ask your child about what we are writing and reading in class. If you have any questions, my extension is 310. I look forward to a successful year!

Heather Idalski
