JV Cards top Chiefs, set up rematch vs. Trojans
JOHANNESBURG — The Johannesburg-Lewiston junior varsity football team scored early and often against the Cheboygan freshmen in a 48-0 win Thursday.
Dan Nieman took the opening kick 80 yards for a touchdown, and the Cardinals never looked back, rolling up a 42-0 lead at halftime.
Another balanced rushing effort was the name of the game. Dale Wells led the way with 77 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Ethan May added 67 yards. Nick May contributed 56 yards and a touchdown, and Logan Huff chipped in 44 yards and two touchdowns.
Logan Huff had 10 total tackles to lead the defense. Brandon Huff added nine tackles, and Nathan Fox and Trevor Pickelmann each tallied eight tackles. Nieman and May each had fumble recoveries.
The Cardinals (6-1) host Central Lake on Thursday.
The Trojans handed J-L its only loss, 36-34, on Sept. 20.

JV CARDS TOP MANCELONA, 40-22

JOHANNESBURG — The Johannesburg-Lewiston junior varsity team came up with a huge 40-22 victory against Mancelona last Thursday.
The Cardinals were ahead early and often, racking up a 40-8 lead early in the third quarter.
J-L churned out 343 yards on the ground.
Logan Huff led the way with 118 yards and a touchdown. Ethan May added 83 yards and three scores, while Nick May had 50 yards and a touchdown.
Brandon Huff rounded out the scoring with a touchdown to go with 40 rushing yards.
Nathan Fox had 10 total tackles to lead the defense, while Brandon Huff had a fumble recovery.

JV Cardinals continue winning ways

JOHANNESBURG — The Johannesburg-Lewiston junior varsity football team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 36-20 victory against Inland Lakes Friday.
The Cardinals jumped ahead 30-6 early in the third quarter and never looked back.
Dan Nieman had a big day for the Cardinals, catching two passes for 79 yards and a pair of touchdowns and adding a 90-yard kickoff return for a score.
The Cardinals exhibited a balanced rushing attack with Nick May leading the way with 81 yards. Logan Huff added 63 yards and a touchdown, while Ethan May had 58 yards.
Quarterback Brandon Huff passed for 79 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another.
Nathan Fox led the defense with 13 total tackles, while Logan Huff, Brandon Huff and Trevor Pickelmann each had 10 tackles.
Jac Bandt and Brendan Prentice each had nine tackles, while Ethan May and Logan Huff each had fumble recoveries. Huff added a blocked kick.

JV Cardinals open season victorious

JOHANNESBURG — The Johannesburg-Lewiston junior varsity football team opened up the season Thursday with a 20-12 victory over the Alpena freshmen.
Logan Huff rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Cardinals, while Ethan May added 67 yards and Nick May 60 yards on the ground.
Brandon Huff scored the Cardinals’ other touchdown on a 2-yard run.
Nathan Fox had two sacks to go with his team-high 12 tackles. Logan Huff also had 12 stops.
Nick May tallied nine tackles and a fumble recovery, while Trevor Pickelmann added 10 tackles. Alden Nickert and Zach Moss each had eight tackles, while Dan Nieman recorded seven tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery.
