Position:
Johannesburg-Lewiston High School Special Education/Math Teacher

Availability:
December 10, 2014

Salary:
As per Collective Bargaining Agreement

Credentials:

  • Valid Michigan Secondary Teaching Certificate with Endorsements in Special Education and Mathematics
  • Must meet NCLB “highly qualified” requirements for secondary special education and math. 

Experience:

  • Teaching experience in mathematics and/or special education at the high school level preferred
  • Michigan public school teaching experience preferred

Characteristics/Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates integrity, honesty, and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Demonstrates extensive content knowledge, awareness of students’ needs, ability to make connections with other disciplines and/or real life
  • Demonstrates exemplary classroom management skills
  • Promotes academic rigor, holds high expectations for student achievement, consistently and accurately assesses student progress and develops tools as needed to increase student growth
  • Lessons include clearly defined lesson plans, actively engaged students, differentiated instruction, structure with the ability to be modified as needed, spiraled learning and smooth transitions
  • Participates in professional development activities, school committees, etc.
  • Demonstrates strong attention to administrative tasks (grade reporting, lesson plans, attendance, etc.)
  • Knowledgeable about best practices in curriculum, instruction and assessment for 9-12
  • Knowledgeable about special education policies, procedures, and law
  • Knowledgeable about uses of technology in education
  • Willing and able to participate in the J-L community through involvement and participation in student events and activities and community events
