The Johannesburg-Lewiston Area Schools are seeking a general education elementary classroom teacher.

Elementary Teacher


Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with an elementary self-contained classroom endorsement. 
All candidates must meet all necessary state certification standards and federal highly qualified standards.

Duties include teaching the core academic subjects in a self-contained elementary classroom and may include other subjects and/or assignments as allowable by board of education policy, MDE regulations, state and federal laws.

K-12 Physical Education Teacher (Johannesburg Building)

2015-2016 School Year

Experience and Credentials:

  • Michigan teaching certificate with K-12 physical education endorsement required
  • Michigan public school teaching experience preferred


  • Knowledgeable about best practices in K-12 physical education instruction and assessment
  • Able to demonstrate extensive physical education content area knowledge
  • Able to make connections with other content areas, other disciplines and/or real life
  • Knowledgeable about public education policies, procedures, and law
  • Able to demonstrate integrity, honesty, awareness of student needs and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Able to build and maintain student/teacher relationships
  • Willing to participate in professional development opportunities, district committees and other opportunities for professional growth
  • Able to write clearly defined lesson plans which include differentiated instruction, structure with the ability to modify instruction, spiraled learning and smooth transitions
  • Able to actively engage students, promote academic rigor and
  • Able to demonstrate exemplary classroom management skills
  • Holds high expectations for student growth, regularly and accurately assess student progress and develops tools as needed to increase student growth
  • Pays strong attention to administrative tasks (grade reporting, lesson plans, attendance)
  • Knowledgeable about uses of technology in education
  • Willing and able to participate in the J-L community through coaching, involvement and participation in student events and activities, school and district committees, and community events
