Johannesburg-Lewiston Middle School girls track team find success

JOHANNESBURG — The Johannesburg-Lewiston middle school girls track team edged the competition in winning a pair of meets last week.

Coach Kristine Peppin’s Cardinals bested Mancelona, Bellaire and Central Lake Tuesday as first place finishes went to Alicia Rondo (high jump), Abby Schlicher (pole vault), Nadine Peterson (3200m run), Nicole Bush (800m run), Miranda House (100m dash), Meridith DeLuca (70m dash), the 1600m relay of Rondo, Peterson, Schlicher and DeLuca and the 400m relay of Mady Head, T.J. Gardner, Amanda Nickert and House.

Taking second was Tiffany Nickert (shot put), Shawna Galehouse (1600m run), Rondo (100m dash), Bush (400m dash, 200m dash) and the 3200m relay of Hannah Huff, Courtney Wasnock, Galehouse and Peterson.

Third place finishes went to Schlicher (high jump), Head (shot put, 100m dash) and the 800m relay of Huff, Mattie Hummel, Galehouse and Tiffany Nickert.
On Thursday, J-L bested Inland Lakes, Pellston and Central Lake behind first place finishes  from Bush (800m run, 200m dash), DeLuca (400m dash, 70m dash), the 3200m relay of Huff, Wasnock, Galehouse and Peterson and the 1600m relay of Peterson, Schlicher, Rondo and DeLuca.

Taking second was Schlicher (high jump, pole vault), Peterson (3200m run), House (100m dash) and Bush (400m dash).

Coming in third was Rondo (high jump, 70m dash), Tiffany Nickert (shot put), Galehouse (1600m run), Head (100m dash), the 800m relay of Huff, Gardner, Galehouse and Tiffany Nickert and the 400m relay of Head, Gardner, Amanda Nickert and House.

The Cardinals then competed at Inland Lakes, taking second overall in a field that included eight teams.

Schlicher tied a school record with a first-place in the pole vault while DeLuca also broke a school record in the 800m run.

Taking second for J-L was Hummel (pole vault), Bush (400m dash), DeLuca (70m dash) while thirds went to Schlicher (high jump), Bush (800m run, 200 m dash) and DeLuca (400m dash).

The 400m relay of Head, Gardner, Nickert and House took fourth, as did Peterson (3200m run).
