Johannesburg-Lewiston Middle School - Students of the Month, March 2026!

Lewiston Cardinals SOAR! Today the Lewiston Cardinals had a fun assembly celebrating students who demonstrated the trait of OWNERSHIP. Next month's focus is AWARENESS. Students were also celebrated for activities during reading month. Keep on reading! Special thanks to the Montmorency Library for some great reading month prizes!

Mr. Proctor led an engaging assembly honoring students who demonstrated the specific character traits of positive attitude and responsibility. This month's focus is on kindness and empathy. Keep leading with character, Cardinals!

Johannesburg Elementary School students did a Flashlight Friday buddy read in the dark with stars in the the sky and waves in the background. Lots of reading fun happening around here.

We are so proud of our Cardinal Club crew! Our recent after-school project had our students trading backpacks for screwdrivers and paintbrushes to build and decorate these beautiful birdhouses.
While the birdhouses look amazing, the real magic was watching the teamwork in action. From measuring and sanding to choosing the perfect colors, these kids learned that everything is better when we play and work together. Helping a teammate hold a board or sharing a favorite paint color—that’s what being a Cardinal is all about!
A huge thank you to everyone who supports our after-school programs. We’re building skills, building friendships, and building a better home for our local birds!

Due to unsafe conditions on secondary roads and for the safety of students and staff, JLAS will be closed today, Monday, March 2nd. Let's get melting!

JLAS would like to thank the Otsego Community Foundation for their generous donations to the JLAS community. This year, they have awarded us just under $20,000 in grants to support both literacy and staff retention and celebration. We are truly grateful to their organization. We would like to thank the Amar-Fox Family Fund, Meemic - The Drzewiecki Agency, UAW Local 388 Educators Fund, Otsego County United Way, Youth Fun, Cwik Holly by Golly Fund and OCF Capacity Grants for their contributions as part of these grants.
