Thanks to Johannesburg Cardinal Club and MiLeap, students had the opportunity to extend their day of learning from cartoonist, Duane Abel by attending an after-school drawing workshop. Each student received a sketch book and pencil. While Duane was teaching how to draw the character he was also explaining to them that when things are hard not to give up. To stay positive, practice, and keep trying.

To celebrate March Reading Month, every student in the Johannesburg Preschool through 5th grade will be able to pick a free book. This has been made possible by the MiLeap Out of School Time Grant and Johannesburg Cardinal Club.

Varsity softball players visited Lewiston Elementary and shared a book with students!

Johannesburg Cardinal Club had so much fun celebrating St. Patricks day with Mrs. Jackie from Orsa Credit Union. They practiced their graphing, counting, and adding with lucky charms cereal. We discussed pot of gold (saving money ) and what that could look like for them.

First graders enjoyed having Mrs. Hansen come in and read her favorite books to them.

Students are enjoying cartoonist, Duane Abel, showcasing his talent through storytelling and drawing while bringing a positive message about character and the possibilities of future.

This past Saturday 7th and 8th grade girls had the opportunity to go to Michigan State University and experience a day filled with STEM learning. Thank you Gaylord area AAUW for this amazing opportunity.

JL High School students will be competing in a Powder Puff Volleyball game against students from Atlanta High School. The event is on Monday March 23rd. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults. Come on out to support JL.

Connected Creativity!

Organized by Reese Bober, Cardinal Club students drew pictures of their own, unique characters. Next, Writers' Club members created stories to accompany the younger students' artistic creations. Last week, the JLHS Writers' Club & the JEMS Cardinal Club students joined to share their connected creativity: reading stories, sharing pictures, and celebrating with cookies!

Lewiston Elementary after school movie night scheduled for Tuesday, March 17th has been canceled and rescheduled for Tuesday, March 24th. Pick up time will remain the same at 4:45.

Dear Cardinal family, due to the extreme weather conditions and the need for many secondary roads to be plowed yet, JLAS will be closed Tuesday, March 17th. The fitness centers will also be closed. Please stay safe, read a book, and help each other out!

🚨 BOARD MEETING RESCHEDULED
The Johannesburg-Lewiston Area Schools Board of Education Regular Meeting scheduled for 6:00 PM on March 16, 2026, at the Lewiston School Cafeteria has been rescheduled to March 23, 2026 due to inclement weather and road conditions. ❄️

Cardinal families, the blizzard has arrived with ice coming in tonight. JLAS will be closed Monday, March 16. There will be no activities or fitness center hours. We will make a determination on the board meeting tomorrow. Please prepare and stay safe. We know what an ice storm can bring and we know what we can prepare for. 7th and 8th grade girls who are registered for the STEM trip to MSU on Saturday- this trip is a go! The bus will be picking up in the High School parking lot at 7:15 AM.
